How to Compare International School Fees Without Getting Fooled by Per-Term Pricing
Published 16 August 2026
Here’s a mistake that’s easy to make and expensive to catch late: comparing a school that quotes fees per term against one that quotes per year, without converting them to the same basis first.
Why this trips parents up
Most Thai academic years run three terms. A school quoting 150,000 THB “per term” costs 450,000 THB a year. A school quoting 400,000 THB “per year” is actually cheaper, even though 400,000 looks like the bigger number at a glance. If you’re scanning fee pages quickly while comparing five or six schools, it’s an easy number to misread, and the mistake only surfaces months later when the invoices start arriving.
How to compare properly
Always convert to an annual figure first. Before you put a fee on a comparison list, check whether it’s quoted per term or per year, and multiply by three if it’s per term. Do this for every school on your shortlist before you compare any of them, not just the ones that look expensive.
Compare full first-year cost, not tuition alone. Annual tuition alone still leaves out application fees, deposits and registration costs. Two schools with identical annual tuition can differ by tens of thousands of baht in what you actually pay in year one, once one-off costs are added.
Ask what currency and what’s included. Nearly all Thai international schools bill in Thai baht, but double-check, especially at schools with strong ties to a specific home country’s curriculum, where dual pricing sometimes appears in materials aimed at that market.
A practical way to do this
List every school you’re considering, and for each one write down: tuition (converted to annual if needed), application fee, deposit, registration fee, and any bus or technology fee that applies. Add tuition plus every one-off cost together for a true first-year number. That’s the number that lets you compare schools honestly, not the tuition figure alone.
Compare international schools in Thailand with fees already broken down and dated, so you’re working from consistent numbers instead of reconciling different pricing formats yourself.
